About me

A bit more context about my background and how I like to work.

I’m Sean Kendall, a Designer and UX Engineer who scales design judgment across organizations. I build the standards, systems, and AI tooling that let teams make good design decisions without a designer in the room, working on the system that produces the work, not just the work itself.

As organizations and products grow, breakdowns show up in the same places: inconsistent experiences, duplicated effort, unclear ownership, and systems that weren’t designed to scale. I focus on those moments, where shared structure becomes essential, and turn loosely aligned goals into foundations, and increasingly into tooling, that teams can actually use and adopt.

Lately that means building AI systems and agents that scale design judgment: knowledge platforms, purpose-built agents, and repeatable pipelines that deliver shared guidance inside the tools builders already use. It is early work in a fast-moving space, and being early in it, inside a large organization, is something I am genuinely proud of.

Outside of work, I'm a father, animal lover, sneakerhead, and music obsessive who values good company, thoughtful conversation, and wandering perspectives.

How I like to work

A few principles that show up across most of my projects.

  • Systems, not one-offs.I prefer patterns, primitives, and flows that scale across teams and products, not bespoke solutions for a single surface.
  • Grounded in reality.I stay close to customers, partners, and operators so the work reflects how things actually run, constraints included.
  • Clear over clever.I favor straightforward interactions and decision points that are easy to learn, debug, and extend over time.
  • Collaborative by default.I frame problems early with Design, Product, Engineering, and Operations so trade-offs are explicit and surprises are rare.

Timeline

A high-level view of roles, domains, and how my scope and leverage have evolved.

  • 2023 – Present
Senior UX Designer — Amazon, WW Operations
    Austin, TX

Scaling design judgment across fulfillment operations. I designed and shipped a production AI design-intelligence platform (a shared knowledge base, purpose-built agents, and a repeatable design pipeline) delivered directly inside builders' tools, now the directed standard for AI-driven UI work across the org. Earlier work spanned the design system and cross-org experience standards. Focused on turning scarce design capacity into durable, scalable leverage across hundreds of builders without mandate authority.

  • 2020 – 2023
UX Designer II — Amazon, WW Operations
    Austin, TX

Owned UX for safety and compliance products while building reusable components, patterns, and shared primitives adopted across multiple teams and workflows, laying the groundwork for broader systemization.

  • 2017 – 2020
    UX Designer — SailPoint
    Austin, TX

Designed identity governance experiences alongside the development of a shared design system, improving clarity, adoption, and long-term maintainability across enterprise products

  • 2015 – 2017
    UX Designer — IBM
    Ottawa, Canada

Worked on analytics and data experiences while contributing to the IBM Design Language (now Carbon), gaining early exposure to large-scale system thinking, research, and enterprise design practices.

  • 2013 – 2015
Interactive Media Design — Algonquin College
    Ottawa, Canada — Honors Graduate

Interaction, usability, and prototype-driven workflows that continue to shape my approach to systems, tooling, and early validation.

  • 2005 – 2008
    Graphic Design — Algonquin College
    Ottawa, Canada — Honors Graduate

Foundational training in typography, layout, and visual systems underpinning my design practice today.
